Today I’d like to talk about Lead Magnets, aka your Opt-in Freebie.
What Is A Lead Magnet?
A lead magnet is a way to collect email addresses from people who could potentially become clients. These people are also known as leads. But, you need to provide an irresistible offer in exchange for their email address.
A lead magnet is one of the best ways to build a strong customer base.
Things You Must Consider When Creating Your Lead Magnet
Why would someone be willing to give you their email address?
Why would they want to sign up for your email list?
What’s in it for them?
The whole point of opt-in freebies is to offer value to your audience.
Nobody is going to just randomly give you their precious email address for nothing in return.
Your Email List Is Your Greatest Asset.
Let’s face it. You don’t own your accounts on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram (or wherever you do most of you social media marketing). So, what would happen if any of these platforms shut down or shuts down your account? How will you stay in touch with your audience, or market to them?
Via your email list.
This is why the offering you have created for your fans is important. It needs to be of value to your audience.
Once they are on your email list, you can then market to them specifically.
*Note – I have colleagues who have had their accounts shut down on Facebook. So, this CAN happen.
Email Vs Social Media Posts
There are so many things posted on social media every single second, but most of it gets lost in the feed. And, if it’s not eye-catching, your audience will just scroll straight by. Your audience is not going to see everything you post.
Your fans are more likely to open your emails than see your posts on social media. Remember, they have signed up to your list because they WANT to be there. When they check their email, your message will be more likely opened and read.
Your freebie has to provide value to your client or reader, if not, you risk losing them.
Once they are on your list, you can provide them with anything you really want them to see. And if they are true fans they WILL open your email.
Not Sure What To Create As Your Lead Magnet?
Coming up with ideas for your lead magnet can be confusing and overwhelming, but it doesn’t need to be. Click To Tweet Simply follow the steps below to create your perfect lead magnet. It’s time to grow your list!
Step 1. Check Out Your Competition.
Your competition ideally, is someone who is an influencer in your niche.
Take a look at their website and their social media channels.
What are they offering as a freebie, opt-in or lead magnet?
What can you do that is better?
You’re only looking at their content to gain some inspiration. Do NOT copy what they are doing. You can make something MUCH better by gaining some insight into what people are signing up for and why.
Step 2. Where To Find Your Competitors.
Not sure how to find your competition? There are quite a few different places you can look to see what’s working for other blogger’s or businesses in your niche.
Search For Pins On Pinterest
Search within your niche and see what top Pins show up in regards to their opt-in. Simply type in your keyword in the Pinterest search bar. Scroll through until you see a Pin that catches your eye. Click on the Pin to get more information on it. Scroll down and you will see “More Like This”.
Search For Ads On Facebook
You can see the ads that a Page is currently running on Facebook and Instagram even if you are not part of the intended audience.
To see a Page’s ads:
- Go to your competitors Facebook Business Page.
- Select See More in the Page Transparency section (right sidebar).
- Under Ads from this Page, select Go to Ad Library.
You’ can now see ads that the Page is currently running in your country (if any). If you don’t see any ads for your country, choose a different country from the list. You should now see the ads that the Page is running.
Step 3. Create your lead magnet
Look at your Top Posts on your website.
Using Google Analytics find your top 2-3 posts. Can you make freebies that relate to these posts?
